Bauyrzhan K. Primkulov
I am a fluid mechanician with a strong interest in problems where capillarity plays a feature-defining role. Most of my recent work is centered around fluid-fluid displacement in disordered environments and pilot-wave hydrodynamics.
Before joining Yale, I was an Applied Math Instructor at MIT. I hold a PhD from MIT, as well as a BSc and MSc from the University of Alberta.

Johnathan Hoggarth
Johnathan joined the group as a Postdoctoral Researcher in January 2025. He holds a Ph.D. from McMaster University, where his work focused on experiments investigating cohesion in ideal emulsion-based systems. At Yale, he plans to contribute to projects related to pilot-wave hydrodynamics. Outside of the lab, Johnathan enjoys the simple pleasures of playing video games, and relaxing while watching sports and TV.

Diana Omar
Diana joined the group as an undergraduate researcher in February 2025. She is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering on the ABET-accredited track. Outside the lab, she enjoys writing and producing music, singing with her a cappella group, and going on walks.
Junyi Ye
Junyi is joining the group as a Ph.D. student in Fall 2026. She earned her B.S. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Southern University of Science and Technology, where her research focused on drop evaporation and microfluidics. Outside of academics, she enjoys drawing, traveling, and playing music.
Shu Yang
Shu will join the group as a Ph.D. student in Fall 2026. He will receive dual Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Zhejiang University. Outside academia, he looks forward to exploring national parks across the U.S.
Tianyou Xie
Tianyou will join the group as a PhD student in Fall 2026. He will receive his bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University. His research interests include fluid dynamics and multiphysics modelling.
Outside of academia, he enjoys working out, playing video games, and following sports.
